What we score

Weight

From maker's figures

How much it adds to your pack.

Packed size

From maker's figures

How much room it takes in your rucksack.

Boil speed (still air)

From maker's figures

How fast the maker says it boils 1 litre in still air. Wind slows every stove: see Wind performance.

Wind performance

From reviews, or the maker's specs

How well it keeps boiling in a breeze, as sold, without an extra windshield.

Stability

From reviews, or the maker's specs

How steadily it holds a pot, including on uneven ground.

Simmer control

From reviews, or the maker's specs

How low the flame turns down without going out, for real cooking.
