Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 8: Clearly better than most.
The maker's minimum (trail) weight is 1,170 g, which sits in the 1.0–1.49 kg band. Shops and reviews quote 1.19–1.39 kg; we use the maker's own minimum.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 8/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.
Flysheet is 4,000 mm HH, in the 3,000 mm+ band, and the floor is 5,000 mm so there is no deduction. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.
Wind
From reviews 7/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 7: Better than most.
Reviewers agree the low tunnel shape copes with wind, but one calls it flappy and the YouTuber found it noisy in gusts, so it is solid rather than outstanding.
Space
Estimate from maker's specs: inner floor area per person 8/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 8: Clearly better than most.
Estimate from maker's specs
Packed size
From maker's figures 5/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Packs to 34 x 18 x 18 cm. Two sides are equal, so it is a round stuff sack (GO Outdoors lists it as 34 x ø18 cm): 3.1416 x 9 x 9 x 34 = 8,652 cm³, so 8.7 L, in the 7–9.9 L band. One review measured 40 x 15 cm instead; we use the maker's figures.
What reviewers say (out of 10)
Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score
Pitching*
Estimate: only 2 reviews about pitching (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How quickly and easily one person can pitch it, including in wind and rain.
2 reviews on pitching, e.g. "It can be set up in a couple of minutes as a single unit, with both outer and inner clipped together.".
Condensation*
Estimate: only 2 reviews about condensation (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How dry it stays inside on still, damp nights; higher is drier.
2 reviews on condensation, e.g. "airflow is nonetheless better than in many of its rivals".
Durability*
Estimate: only 2 reviews about durability (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How well the fabric, poles, zips and seams hold up over seasons of use.
2 reviews on durability, e.g. "The Halny Elite 1 is not only waterproof but should be durable too.".
In short
Good for
- Solo wild camps in UK hills from spring to autumn, in wet and windy weather
Strengths
- Low tunnel shape that reviewers found steady in strong wind and rain
- Goes up as one piece (inner and flysheet together), so the inner stays dry while you pitch in the rain
- Plenty of vents at both ends, and the door can be propped up as an awning with a trekking pole
- Made from recycled, PFC-free fabrics
Weaknesses
- Tight, tapered inside: reviewers call it cramped, the inner sags a little, and a 1.88 m owner could not quite sit up straight
- Heavier and bulkier than Wild Country's own Laser tents and the lightest solo tents on the market
- Needs guylines to hold its shape, so it is harder to pitch where the soil is thin and pegs will not grip
- Can flap and be noisy in strong gusts
- Weights are quoted differently by the maker and shops (1.17 to 1.22 kg minimum, 1.36 to 1.39 kg total), so check the shop listing
- Only tested over single trips so far; there are no long-term reports on how it wears
