Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 8: Clearly better than most.
Wechsel's trail weight (inner, fly and poles) is 1,160 g, in the 1.0-1.49 kg band; total weight with pegs and bag is 1,310 g. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 1,138 g and Alpinetrek 1,660 g; we band Wechsel's own figure.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 8/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.
Wechsel gives a 3,000 mm fly and a 5,000 mm floor with taped seams. The fly is in the 3,000 mm+ band and the floor is over 2,000 mm, so nothing is taken off. The silicone fly cannot be seam-taped; Wechsel says to seal the seams with sealant before use. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.
Wind
Estimate from maker's specs: maker's season rating (fewer than 3 reviews about wind) 5/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
No published review says how it copes with wind, so this is an estimate from the maker's season rating.
Space
From maker's figures 6/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 6: A bit better than average.
Wechsel's dimension drawing shows an inner 215 cm long and 125 cm wide: 2.15 x 1.25 = 2.69 m2, so 1.34 m2 each, in the 1.15-1.34 band, just under the edge of band 4 (1.35). Wechsel's text gives only the 215 cm lying length; the 125 cm width is on the drawing and agrees with the shop figure.
Packed size
From maker's figures 6/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 6: A bit better than average.
Packs to 40 cm long x 15 cm across: 3.1416 x 7.5 x 7.5 x 40 = 7,069 cm3, so 7.07 L, in the 7-9.9 L band, just over the edge.
In short
Good for
- Two people sharing a very light kit for bikepacking or summer and early autumn walking
- Anyone who wants the inner on its own on warm nights (mostly mesh)
- Tall sleepers: 215 cm lying length
Strengths
- 1,160 g trail weight, about 580 g each when shared
- Packs to 40 x 15 cm (7.1 L)
- Two doors and two porches (about 65 cm deep each, per Wechsel's drawing)
- Fly 3,000 mm and floor 5,000 mm HH; floor seams taped
- Carbon poles with aluminium hubs, a ridge pole over the inner and loops for trekking poles
Weaknesses
- 125 cm inner width (Wechsel's drawing) leaves little room for two wide mats, as Ultralight Outdoor Gear also says
- Semi-freestanding: it needs pegs and guylines to take its shape
- Silicone fly cannot be factory taped; Wechsel says to seal the seams yourself first
- No independent test or review found, so wind, pitching and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
- Shops list it as three seasons; Wechsel's page gives no season rating, so that is our assumption
- Wechsel states no floor area: the 2.69 m2 is worked out from its 215 x 125 cm drawing, and the band is close to the next one up
- Shops disagree on the weight (1,138 g, 1,660 g); we use Wechsel's
