Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 4/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 4: A bit below average.
Listed weight 2.17 kg, in the 2.0-2.69 kg band.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 7/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 7: Better than most.
UK shops (Millets and GO Outdoors, Vango's own copy) give the fly as 2,000 mm HH, in the 2,000–2,999 band, band 4 (7 out of 10); the floor is 10,000 mm, so no point comes off. Two reviewers say 3,000 mm, but we band the figure the sellers print.
Wind
Estimate from maker's specs: maker's season rating (fewer than 3 reviews about wind) 3/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
No published review says how it copes with wind, so this is an estimate from the maker's season rating.
Space
Estimate from maker's specs: berths and tent shape (no floor area published) 7/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 7: Better than most.
Estimate from maker's specs
Packed size
From maker's figures 5/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Packs to 52 cm long x 15 cm across: 3.1416 x 7.5 x 7.5 x 52 = 9,189 cm³, so 9.19 L, in the 7-9.9 L band.
What reviewers say (out of 10)
Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score
Pitching*
Reviewers' average 7/10How quickly and easily one person can pitch it, including in wind and rain.
3 reviews on pitching, e.g. "it's dead easy to erect to uh to set up you can have the thing put up in about five minutes it's dead easy".
Condensation*
Estimate: only 1 review about condensation (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 4/10How dry it stays inside on still, damp nights; higher is drier.
1 review on condensation, e.g. "ventilation wise it's not great uh so yeah there there's quite a bit of condensation unfortunately".
In short
Good for
- One person who wants a cheap, low tent for summer wild camps in sheltered spots
- A first tent to try wild camping before spending more
- Short trips where a 2.2 kg tent is light enough
Strengths
- 2.17 kg and packs to 9.2 L
- Fly 2,000 mm and floor 10,000 mm, with a lights-out inner that blocks early light
- Reflective webbing and a large carry bag that is easy to stuff
- Pitched in 5 to 7 minutes by reviewers
Weaknesses
- Thin fibreglass poles, which Leo - Man And Mountain did not trust in wind; the tent is best kept for summer and sheltered pitches
- Tight for two: reviewers fit one person plus kit comfortably, and shops give only built dimensions of 270 x 130 cm
- Inner pitches first, so the inner gets wet when pitching in rain
- Little mesh, and one reviewer had noticeable condensation in a calm night
- Basic pegs that reviewers said they would replace
- UK shops print 2,000 mm for the fly while two reviewers say 3,000 mm, so don't count on the higher figure
- We could not find it on Vango's own website, and no shop gives a season rating: we list it as two-season, as Leo - Man And Mountain calls it
