Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 2/10

How much it adds to your pack. 2: A weak point.

Trangia's product data lists 690 g for the spirit-burner version (775 g with the gas burner): two 1 litre pans, 18 cm frying pan lid, two windshields, burner, handle and strap. That is in the 650 g and over band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 684 g and Heinnie 690 g, so it is not a shipping weight.

Fuel use

Estimate from maker's specs: fuel type (no fuel use figure published) 1/10

How much fuel it burns to boil a litre in calm air: less fuel to carry. 1: A real weak point.

Estimate from maker's specs

Boil speed (calm air)

From maker's figures 1/10

How fast the maker says it boils 1 litre in calm air. 1: A real weak point.

Trangia gives 10 minutes for 1 litre on its spirit burner (600 s), in the 480 s and over band.

In short

Good for

  • One or two people cooking real meals (frying, pasta, a pan of rice) on a wild camp
  • Anyone who wants a windshield built into the set, so there is nothing extra to carry
  • Walkers and canoeists who put robustness and a silent stove ahead of weight

Strengths

  • Two-part windshield and pan stand in one (upper and lower part, Trangia)
  • Two 1 litre pans plus an 18 cm frying pan lid, enough for a proper meal for two
  • Burner, pans, windshields and handle pack together into 18.5 cm across and 10 cm high with a strap
  • Silent burner, with no canister, valve or pump to fail

Weaknesses

  • 690 g, in the heaviest weight band we score (650 g and over)
  • Boils 1 litre in 10 minutes by Trangia's figure (600 s)
  • Spirit burner: Trangia gives no cold rating, so we do not mark it winter-ready
