Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 2/10How much it adds to your pack for the water it holds. 2: A weak point.
Stanley UK lists 390 g for 0.71 L: 549 g per litre, over 500 g/L. Trekitt also lists 390 g and counts 0.7 L (557 g/L). Band 1 either way.
Packed size (empty)
From maker's figures 1/10How much room it takes up when it is empty, for the water it holds. 1: A real weak point.
A rigid bottle does not shrink. Stanley UK gives 255 mm tall and 95 x 85 mm across. Taking the wider 95 mm as the diameter: 3.1416 x 4.75 x 4.75 x 25.5 = 1,807 cm³, so 1.81 L empty for 0.71 L held (2.55 per litre). Even at 85 mm it is 2.04 per litre. Both are in band 1 (1.8 and over). Trekitt lists 23 x 9 cm; we use Stanley's own figure.
In short
Good for
- Commutes, car trips and day walks where a cold drink in a cup-holder bottle is wanted
- Cold water for summer days: Stanley says it keeps water ice-cold for days with ice
- Hikers who want one-handed drinking through the built-in straw
Strengths
- Double-wall vacuum insulation with a lighter spun-steel build, made of recycled stainless steel (Stanley)
- Flip-up straw lid drinks one-handed and snaps shut; the spout comes off for cleaning
- Fits car cup holders, has a carry handle and a dishwasher-safe body
Weaknesses
- 390 g for 0.71 L: 549 g per litre, over 4 times the weight per litre of a 132 g plastic 1 L bottle
- About 1.8 L of pack room when empty for 0.71 L held
- A cold-drink bottle: the straw lid is not for hot drinks
- No independent test of this version found, so ease of use and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
