Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 7/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 7: Better than most.
Decathlon's parts list gives flysheet 730 g + bedroom 482 g + poles 206 g = 1,418 g, in the 1.0–1.49 kg band. Its headline 1.65 kg also includes 11 pegs (110 g), guylines, bags and a repair kit, and would be the 1.5–1.99 kg band, band 3 (5 out of 10).
Rain protection
From maker's figures 7/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 7: Better than most.
Flysheet over 2,000 mm is the 2,000–2,999 band (banded at 2,000 mm); the floor is over 3,000 mm, so no point is taken off.
Wind
Estimate: only 1 review about wind (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 8: Clearly better than most.
Advnture found the earlier 1.75 kg listing of this UL tunnel tent stable in very high gusts when correctly pitched. Its comparison with the Robens Chaser is a field observation, not a measured wind-speed rating.
Space
From maker's figures 4/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 4: A bit below average.
Decathlon gives a 205 cm bedroom that is 110 cm wide at the head, 130 cm at the shoulders and 80 cm at the feet: 205 x 106.7 (average of the three widths) = about 2.19 m², or 1.09 m² each for two, in the 0.95–1.14 band. The bedroom narrows to 80 cm at the feet.
Packed size
From maker's figures 8/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 8: Clearly better than most.
Decathlon states a 5 L bag (39 x 12 x 11 cm), in the 4–6.9 L band.
In short
Good for
- Solo walkers who want a sheltered, roomy tent that is also light
- Budget lightweight backpacking where one person and their gear need space
- Trips where the tent is pegged out on soft ground, since it will not stand up on its own
Strengths
- Tent body, fly and pole weigh 1.42 kg, and the whole kit with pegs and bags is 1.65 kg
- Packs to 5 L (39 x 12 x 11 cm)
- Inner and fly come pre-attached; Advnture pitched it in under 5 minutes first time and found it quicker each time
- Fly over 2,000 mm and floor over 3,000 mm, with taped seams
- Advnture found it held up as well as a Robens Chaser 1 in high gusts
- Two doors and a porch; Decathlon sells the inner, fly and pole as spare parts
Weaknesses
- Tight for two: 1.09 m² each, and the bedroom narrows to 80 cm at the feet; Advnture says it suits one person and gear better
- Not freestanding: needs pegs and guylines, so it is hard to pitch on rock or hard ground
- Centre pole is a tight fit into its latches, and Advnture worried about bending it
- Some condensation reported by Advnture despite two vents
- Only one independent review (Advnture) of the tunnel model, so wind, pitching and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
- Decathlon says the ultralight fabrics should not be left in strong sun, as UV can damage them
