Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 8/10

How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 8: Clearly better than most.

Decathlon's parts list gives flysheet 550 g + bedroom 520 g + two aluminium struts 50 g = 1,120 g, in the 1.0–1.49 kg band. Its headline 1.3 kg also includes 11 pegs (116 g), guylines and bags and is in the same band. The method bands the tent's own parts, as on Decathlon's 1-person tarp tent, so the two trekking poles you supply are not counted: walkers who don't already use poles should add theirs.

Rain protection

From maker's figures 7/10

How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 7: Better than most.

Flysheet over 2,000 mm is the 2,000–2,999 mm band (banded at 2,000 mm); the floor is over 3,000 mm, so no point is taken off.

Wind

Estimate: only 1 review about wind (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10

How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 8: Clearly better than most.

The owner reports that the 1.3 kg tarp tent stayed standing in continuous strong wind during Typhoon Egay. Wind speed at the campsite was not independently measured; the 920 g one-person reviews were excluded.

Space

From maker's figures 6/10

Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 6: A bit better than average.

Decathlon gives a 225 cm bedroom, 125 cm wide at the head and 105 cm at the feet: 225 x 115 (average width) = about 2.59 m², or 1.29 m² each for two, in the 1.15–1.34 band. Decathlon's own '60 cm per person' agrees. Bedroom height is 95 cm, and the porches are each 60 cm deep.

Packed size

From maker's figures 8/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 8: Clearly better than most.

Decathlon states a 4 L bag (35 x 12 x 11 cm), in the 4–6.9 L band (under 4 L would be the top band).

What reviewers say (out of 10)

Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score

Pitching*

Estimate: only 2 reviews about pitching (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10

How quickly and easily one person can pitch it, including in wind and rain.

2 reviews on pitching, e.g. "installation of the stand is not the most difficult process and you don't need the help of a partner".

Durability*

Estimate: only 1 review about durability (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10

How well the fabric, poles, zips and seams hold up over seasons of use.

1 review on durability, e.g. "Außerdem zeigen die Alustangen nach dem Test leichte Korrosion.".

In short

Good for

  • Walkers who already carry two trekking poles and want a light two-person tent on a budget
  • Soft-ground or grassy trips where pegs hold, since it is not freestanding
  • Solo walkers who want a roomy, light double-wall tent: 1.3 kg all in

Strengths

  • Parts weigh 1.12 kg and the full kit with pegs and bags is 1.3 kg
  • Packs to 4 L (35 x 12 x 11 cm)
  • Inner and fly come pre-attached, with two doors and two 60 cm porches
  • Fly over 2,000 mm and floor over 3,000 mm, with heat-taped seams
  • The pole height (115 cm) is marked on the tent, and Decathlon sells the inner and fly as spare parts
  • Decathlon says it passed a 70 km/h wind-tunnel test

Weaknesses

  • Two trekking poles (115 cm) are not supplied; Decathlon sells a separate pole kit
  • Not freestanding: needs pegs and tension, so it is hard to pitch on rock
  • Tight for two tall people; Walking Nature World found the inner sags onto your head at the head end
  • Some condensation, mould and leak reports from buyers; the mesh does not reach the ground, so it is draughty at altitude
  • The white fabric shows dirt and attracts insects at night (Walking Nature World)
  • Decathlon says the ultralight fabrics should not be left in strong sun
  • Only two first-look videos and Decathlon's buyers cover the 2-person tent, so wind and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
