Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Brightness
From maker's figures 5/10How much light it gives at full power, for finding your way in the dark. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Maker's figure, 350 lumens in the full-power mode (3 hours) with no test standard stated: the 300–499 band (maker's figure). The 600-lumen boost is not counted: Decathlon's page says it lasts 60 seconds in one place and 10 seconds in another, so it isn't a level the lamp holds for a minute.
Runtime
From maker's figures 10/10How long one charge or set of batteries lasts at a level you can walk and cook by. 10: The best you can buy for this.
The 80-lumen medium mode runs 15 hours on the 1800 mAh battery (maker's figure), in the 10 h+ band. Full power (350 lumens) lasts 3 hours.
Weight
From maker's figures 5/10How much it adds to your pack and your head. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Decathlon lists 105 g, in the 90–109 g band.
In short
Good for
- A cheap rechargeable lamp with a medium mode bright enough to walk by for 15 hours
- Wet UK trips: IPX7 takes 1 m of water for 30 minutes
- Wild campers who want AAA as a backup: the lamp comes with an adapter for three AAA (not included)
Strengths
- 15 hours at 80 lumens and 3 hours at 350 lumens (maker's figures)
- IPX7 and shockproof (IK7)
- Removable 1800 mAh battery with USB-C charging, and an adapter for three AAA batteries
- Red, wide and narrow beams, a lock mode and a 1-hour reserve at 25 lumens
Weaknesses
- The 600-lumen boost lasts seconds, so the lamp is a 350-lumen torch in practice
- 105 g: about 15 g heavier than the HL500
- The AAA adapter is only IPX4, not IPX7
- Decathlon's own advice is that the lamp unit gets hot at full power and shouldn't be used at that level in a confined space
- No independent review of this V3 yet, so comfort and beam are estimates, not reviewed scores
