Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: insulated glove 7/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 7: Better than most.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 7/10How much they add to your pack. 7: Better than most.
95 g for the pair is Advnture's figure for a men's size L pair of the earlier-design Griston it tested, which Sealskinz doesn't confirm as the same glove. Sealskinz publishes no weight. Size M is smaller than L, and the 60-109 g band would only change if the current glove were more than 14 g heavier than that L pair. Sealskinz's own shipping-weight field reads 128 g for the Griston and 131 g for the Harling, which weighs 100 g in size M, so about 95-100 g is consistent. Score 4 stands.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 8/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 8: Clearly better than most.
Sealskinz's own Aquasealz membrane, a sealed three-layer waterproof insert from the maker: the 'sealed insert, maker's own' band.
In short
Good for
- Cool, wet days on the hill, cycling and dog walking when you want a light waterproof glove (Sealskinz also markets it for skiing and mountain hiking)
- A packable waterproof spare for a jacket or pack pocket
- A second pair of waterproof gloves at under 110 g
Strengths
- Light: an earlier-design men's size L pair weighed 95 g (Advnture), so size M should be lighter
- Textured palm for grip (Sealskinz)
- Machine washable at 30 °C (Sealskinz)
Weaknesses
- No independent test of the current Griston found, so warmth, dexterity and durability aren't scored
- Sealskinz publishes no weight, and the 95 g figure is for a size L pair of an earlier version
- Sealskinz makes no touchscreen claim for it (Live for the Outdoors says it isn't compatible; Advnture found it worked), so we list none
- Advnture, on an earlier version, found the wrists can't be tightened or sealed, so water can run in down a sleeve in heavy rain
- Advnture, on an earlier version, found it not protective enough below about -5 °C
