Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Warmth

Estimate from maker's specs: insulated glove 7/10

How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 7: Better than most.

Estimate from maker's specs

Weight

Estimate from maker's specs: glove type (no weight published) 3/10

How much they add to your pack. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

Waterproofing

From maker's figures 8/10

How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 8: Clearly better than most.

Sealskinz's own three-layer Aquasealz membrane, a sealed waterproof insert from the brand itself: the 'sealed insert, brand's own or unnamed' band. Several Sealskinz.com reviewers call it water resistant for a limited time rather than fully waterproof.

In short

Good for

  • Wet, cool autumn to early-winter days when you want a thin waterproof glove with a grippy palm: hill walking, dog walking, cycling
  • A waterproof glove that lets you work a phone or small kit with it on
  • A spare waterproof pair for a pack

Strengths

  • Sealed Aquasealz waterproof membrane with a merino wool lining
  • Silicone grip pattern over the palm and fingers; touchscreen-compatible
  • 4-way stretch nylon outer for a close fit
  • Machine washable at 40 °C

Weaknesses

  • Fit is the commonest complaint in the Sealskinz.com reviews: several say the fingers run long and the palm is baggy, even after measuring to the size guide
  • Not warm enough for real cold in several reviews; Sealskinz itself pitches it from early autumn to midwinter, with no insulation beyond the merino lining
  • Some reviewers say it isn't fully waterproof in prolonged rain
  • Sealskinz publishes no weight
