Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 3/10

How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

Salewa's minimum weight of 2.65 kg (2.94 kg maximum) is in the 2.0–2.69 kg band.

Rain protection

From maker's figures 8/10

How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.

Fly 3,000 mm is the 3,000 mm+ band (the top band); the floor is also 3,000 mm, so no point comes off. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.

Wind

Estimate: only 1 review about wind (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10

How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 6: A bit better than average.

OUTDOOR rates wind stability as good but provides no measured wind speed in this article. Reviews of the single-door Puez Trek 2P were excluded.

Space

From maker's figures 8/10

Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 8: Clearly better than most.

Salewa's 3.0 m² inner area ÷ 2 people = 1.5 m² each, in the 1.35–1.59 band. Outdoor Magazin measured 2.5 m² of usable floor (1.25 m² each, one band lower), 140 cm wide and 205 cm long.

Packed size

From maker's figures 4/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 4: A bit below average.

Packs to 50 x 20 x 12 cm: 50 x 20 x 12 = 12,000 cm³, so 12.0 L, in the 10–14.9 L band (Outdoor Magazin measured 8.6 L in the test sample, which would be a band better).

In short

Good for

  • Two people who want room to sit out wet days on three-season hill camps
  • Couples who want a door and a porch each side, so nobody climbs over the other
  • Camps where the weight can be split between two packs

Strengths

  • Roomy inner: 205 cm long and 140 cm wide (Outdoor Magazin), with about 1 m of headroom (98 cm measured, 105 cm Salewa)
  • Fly and floor are both rated 3,000 mm, the top band for rain protection
  • Two doors and two porches, big enough to cook under or store packs
  • Good airflow: zipped side vents plus a rear panel that lifts the inner wall, and the fly can be pushed up at the ends
  • Comes with 10 aluminium pegs, a repair kit and a bag that turns into a gear organiser
  • Made from recycled fabrics

Weaknesses

  • Heavy for two people at 2.65 kg minimum and 2.94 kg all-in (Outdoor Magazin weighed 2.93 kg)
  • Packs to 12 L by Salewa's size, a bulky roll for a rucksack
  • Inner pitches first, so it is awkward to put up in the rain
  • Salewa quotes 3.0 m² of floor but Outdoor Magazin measured 2.5 m² usable
  • Salewa's lighter Puez Trek 2P is a different tent (single door, about 2.15 kg): check you are buying the right one
