Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 8: Clearly better than most.
Robens' minimum weight is 1,140 g (1,260 g packed), in the 1.0–1.49 kg band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear weighed flysheet, inner and poles at 1,099 g without pegs and bags.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 7/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 7: Better than most.
Flysheet 2,000 mm is in the 2,000–2,999 mm band, and the 5,000 mm floor is over 2,000 mm so no point comes off.
Wind
Estimate from maker's specs: maker's season rating (fewer than 3 reviews about wind) 5/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
No published review says how it copes with wind, so this is an estimate from the maker's season rating.
Space
From maker's figures 8/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 8: Clearly better than most.
Robens' plan shows an inner 215 cm long, 50 and 90 cm wide at the head end and 70 cm at the foot. The average of the three widths is 70 cm: 215 x 70 = 15,050 cm², or 1.5 m², in the 1.35–1.59 m² band. Drawing the tapered shape to scale gives a little over 1.6 m², so we use the lower figure.
Packed size
From maker's figures 6/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 6: A bit better than average.
Robens gives 38 x 16 cm (a stuff-sack cylinder): 3.1416 x 8 x 8 x 38 = 7,642 cm³, so 7.6 L, in the 7–9.9 L band.
In short
Good for
- Solo three-season backpacking and bikepacking where weight and packed size matter
- Warm nights when you want the mesh inner alone as a bug shelter, or the fly alone as a light shelter
Strengths
- Light: 1,140 g minimum weight, 1,260 g packed, and 1,099 g without pegs and bags when a shop weighed it
- FlexPitch: pitch the fly and inner together, the fly alone, or the inner alone
- 5,000 mm floor, and a flysheet fabric that absorbs little water so it stays tight when wet, according to Robens
- Mostly mesh inner for airflow, with two flysheet vents and a two-way door zip for more
- DAC aluminium poles (9 mm), gear rope, lantern point and a flysheet repair patch included
Weaknesses
- Low and narrow: Robens' plan shows an outer height of 95 cm and an inner 50 to 90 cm wide, so it is hard to sit up in
- Mostly mesh inner, so it is a three-season tent and not a winter one
- Not freestanding: it needs pegs and guylines to stand
- The 2,000 mm flysheet is lower than the 3,000 mm+ of the best-rated tents
- No independent reviews of this LW version yet: the earlier Chaser 1 was reviewed well, but it was a different build (nylon flysheet, aluminium poles)
