Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: fleece or softshell glove 3/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much they add to your pack. 8: Clearly better than most.
79 g for the pair, Rab's figure (Cotswold and Sportsshoes repeat it): the 60-109 g band.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 6/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 6: A bit better than average.
Rab calls the glove 'windproof' and builds it from WINDSTOPPER (a windproof membrane from GORE-TEX LABS), with a fluorocarbon-free water-repellent finish (DWR) on the secondary fabric: the 'windproof with a water-repellent finish' band. Rab makes no waterproof claim, so the GORE-TEX rule for waterproof membranes doesn't apply. Cotswold's 'Gore-Tex / waterproof' tag is the shop's, not Rab's.
In short
Good for
- Cold, windy hill days in autumn and spring where you want a close-fitting glove you can keep on
- Walking with poles: the silicone grip palm helps hold them
- Using a phone or camera with gloves on: touchscreen index finger and thumb
- Cold-weather runs and gravel rides, which Rab names as uses
Strengths
- WINDSTOPPER membrane to block the wind, with a fleece lining
- 79 g for the pair
- Silicone grip palm for poles and touchscreen-friendly index finger and thumb
- Few seams and a pre-curved 3D shape to cut bulk
Weaknesses
- Windproof and water-repellent only: Rab doesn't claim it is waterproof, so it isn't for steady rain
- No independent review of this glove found, so our judgement scores are blank
