Warmth
From reviews 10/10How warm it keeps you standing still at camp. 10: The best you can buy for this.
Four independent tests all put it among the warmest technical down jackets: Outdoor Gear Lab scored warmth 9.5 out of 10 and called it the jacket for bone-chilling winters; Switchback Travel called it one of the warmest technical down jackets, best sitting still below freezing; Better Trail scored warmth 4.5 out of 5 and wore it at about -23 C on summit breaks; CleverHiker used it in Alaskan winter cold down to about -15 C and found it too warm for exercise. Each is scored 5 out of 5, so 10 out of 10.

Fit*
Estimate: only 1 review about fit (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How well it fits and moves, over and under other layers.

In short
Good for
- Winter mountaineering, climbing and belaying from exposed ledges (Rab)
- Standing still at a cold camp or on a ridge, over a midlayer
- Dry cold: the Pertex Quantum Pro ripstop outer deflects snow and spindrift (Rab), but this is not a rain jacket
Strengths
- 212 g of 800FP European goose down in size M, in stitch-through baffles
- Weather-resistant 20D Pertex Quantum Pro ripstop outer and Grangers fluorocarbon-free hydrophobic down finish
- Helmet-compatible hood with stiffened peak, two-way front zip, glove-friendly cuff adjustment
- Two hand pockets, an internal security pocket and an inner stash pocket that doubles as the storage pocket
- Fluorocarbon-free DWR; made with renewable energy (Rab)
Weaknesses
- 563 g in size M, in the 450-599 g band
- Too warm for high-output activity or mild days, say the testers, and the shell is less hard-wearing than some (CleverHiker saw feathers at the seams after a few months)
- Rab changed the jacket in 2025 (563 g now, 585 g before): older reviews and some shop listings describe the earlier version
