Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Rain protection
From maker's figures 8/10How well the fabric and seams keep out heavy, long rain, when new. 8: Clearly better than most.
Three reviewers rate the rain protection well: T3 lists excellent Proflex weatherproofing and solid rain protection (4); Outdoors Magic, whose tester wore it in the Welsh hills, calls it highly protective against heavy rain and notes the waterproof zips (4); Advnture, who was sent the jacket, found good protection against the elements on Scottish and English hills (4). In short
Good for
- Showery-day hillwalking and shoulder-season hikes in a light, soft 3-layer shell
- Scrambles where freedom of movement matters (articulated sleeves)
Strengths
- 368 g for size M (Rab's figure)
- 20,000 mm hydrostatic head and 20,000 g/m2/24 h breathability on Rab's page
- 3-layer Pertex Shield with a soft knitted backer, comfortable over a T-shirt
- Two-way adjustable hood with a stiffened peak and gaiter
- Hand pockets reachable under a pack hip belt
- Fluorocarbon-free DWR
Weaknesses
- Rab doesn't say how the seams are finished, so rain protection is an estimate, not a reviewed score
- 20D face fabric is thin: Live For The Outdoors found it flappy in strong wind and not the toughest
- No pit zips and no internal pocket (Live For The Outdoors)
- Weather protection and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores: fewer than 3 write-ups of this version
