Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight for its size

From maker's figures 9/10

How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.

Primus's EU page, its Swedish-language global page and its Canadian page all give 110 g and 0.8 L (they don't say whether the storage bag is counted). 110 g for 0.8 L is 138 g per litre, under 150 g/L. Primus's earlier text, still quoted by Ultralight Outdoor Gear and Trekitt, said 120 g (150 g per litre, band 4); no current Primus page we found says it. Other shop figures: Ultralight Outdoor Gear 105 g without the bag; Alpinetrek 110 g.

Cooking and ease of use

Estimate from maker's specs: what it is made of 7/10

How evenly it heats, whether food sticks or burns, cleaning, and the handles, lid, pouring and steadiness on a small stove. 7: Better than most.

Estimate from maker's specs. Primus's current pages say the handles are titanium; some shops say stainless steel.

In short

Good for

  • Solo walkers who boil water and cook simple one-pot meals
  • Fitting a 100 g gas canister inside the pot (Primus)
  • Walkers counting grams who still want a lid with a strainer

Strengths

  • 110 g for 0.8 L, 138 g per litre
  • Lid with an integrated strainer and pour spout, folding titanium handles and a textured base for grip on a stove (Primus)
  • A 100 g gas canister fits inside (Primus)
  • Includes a nylon storage bag

Weaknesses

  • Thin-walled to save weight (Primus: about 30% lighter than its other Trek pots); no independent source has tested how it wears
  • No non-stick coating
  • Not in Primus's own UK shop
  • Shops give different weights (105 g to 120 g) and handle materials (Primus says titanium; some shops say stainless steel)
