Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 6/10How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 6: A bit better than average.
Primus's EU page gives volumes of 1.0 and 0.6 L, pot weights of 270 g and 140 g, and a packed weight of 410 g; its US page gives 1.6 L and 410 g, and its UK page gives no weight. Primus doesn't say whether the mesh bag is counted. The set's capacity is the two pots added, 1.6 L (Primus gives no volume for the frying pan lid, and lids aren't counted in the method). 410 g for 1.6 L is 256 g per litre, in the 220-299 g/L band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear gives 385 g without the bag (241 g per litre, also band 3); Alpinetrek 410 g. Primus's separate Essential Trek Pot Set (part P741450, 430 g, 1.6 L) is a different set.

In short
Good for
- Two walkers, or one who wants a pot, a small pot and a frying pan in a single nested set
- Wild camps where you cook a main and a side, such as pasta in the big pot and an egg in the small one (Outdoors Magic)
- Fitting a small stove and gas canister inside the packed set (Outdoors Magic)
Strengths
- Two pots (1.0 and 0.6 L) and a frying pan that doubles as the 1 L pot's lid, in one set 11.7 cm across and 14.5 cm tall (Primus)
- Three removable handles, one of which locks the set shut
- Hard-anodised aluminium with a thicker base and spiral pattern, to even out heat (Primus)
- Plastic lid for the small pot with a strainer, and mesh bags that stop the pots rattling (Peak Mountaineering)
Weaknesses
- 256 g per litre, a middling result for weight against size
- Metal handles get hot if left on while cooking (Peak Mountaineering)
- Tall, narrow pots are less stable on a stove and small for a partner's meal (Peak Mountaineering)
