Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 1/10How much it adds to your pack. 1: A real weak point.
Primus gives 903 g for the whole kit (stove, two 1.3 L pots, lid, pot gripper, igniter, heat reflector, bag; specification table), in the 650 g and over band. The 2017 reviews weighed 860 g (UKC), 868 g (grough) and 883 g (Chris Townsend); Mud and Routes says just over 900 g.
Fuel use
Estimate from maker's specs: fuel type (no fuel use figure published) 5/10How much fuel it burns to boil a litre in calm air: less fuel to carry. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Estimate from maker's specs
Boil speed (calm air)
From maker's figures 8/10How fast the maker says it boils 1 litre in calm air. 8: Clearly better than most.
Primus says 1 litre in 3 min 30 s (210 s) with the heat-exchanger pot (specification table; its copy says 3.5 minutes), in the 210-269 s band and right on the line. grough boiled 1 litre in 3 min 53 s (0.5 litre in 2 min 30 s) on a cool evening with a little breeze, and 8 min 03 s for 1 litre in the plain pot.
In short
Good for
- Two or three people who want to cook a meal as well as boil water on a wild camp
- Groups who split the load: 903 g works out at about 300 g each for three
- Camps where two pots help: one for boiling, one for the meal (grough)
Strengths
- Two 1.3 L pots, a lid with a strainer and a locking pot grip in the kit
- Primus quotes 1 litre in 3 min 30 s; grough timed 3 min 53 s in a little breeze
- Low remote-canister stove with a built-in windshield, stable with full pots (grough, Mud and Routes, UKC)
- Flame controls down to a simmer (grough, UKC) and the burner is quiet (Chris Townsend, grough)
- Regulated valve: Chris Townsend found it burns steadily until the canister is almost empty
Weaknesses
- 903 g is heavy for solo use; grough would leave out the plain pot to save 142 g
- The igniter is a separate piezo lighter, not built in, and Chris Townsend's did not always work
- The pack-away is fiddly (Mud and Routes)
- All the reviews found are from 2017 to 2022. Primus now calls item P351032 the PrimeTech Stove System II, but its page lists the same contents, 2,000 W and 3 min 30 s as its February 2024 page, when it was called the Stove Set. We could not find what the II changed
- Shops sell a 'Set II' under item code P351045 (a different barcode) at 797 to 870 g. We could not confirm it is the same kit as Primus's P351032, so those shops are not listed
