Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 1/10How much it adds to your pack for the water it holds. 1: A real weak point.
Primus lists 316 g for 0.5 L on its UK and EU pages: 632 g per litre, over 500 g/L. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 323 g (646 g per litre, same band).
Packed size (empty)
From maker's figures 1/10How much room it takes up when it is empty, for the water it holds. 1: A real weak point.
A rigid bottle does not shrink, so we draw it as a cylinder from its height and width. Primus gives 229 mm tall and 82 mm across: 3.1416 x 4.1 x 4.1 x 22.9 = 1,209 cm³, so 1.21 L empty for 0.5 L held (2.42 per litre), in band 1 (1.8 and over).
In short
Good for
- Day walks and car-and-camp trips that need a wide-mouth insulated bottle for cold drinks
- Filling with ice and cleaning with a brush (82 mm body, wide opening)
- A bottle whose caps swap with the Mika range (standard, hot sip and straw caps sold separately)
Strengths
- Wide opening for filling, ice and cleaning (Primus)
- Primus quotes 32 hours cold (its page gives no test conditions)
- Silicone sleeve for grip and a TPU strap on the cap
- Interchangeable Mika caps in the same wide thread
- PFAS free and dishwasher safe (Primus)
Weaknesses
- 316 g for 0.5 L: 632 g per litre, in the heaviest weight band
- 1.21 L of pack room for 0.5 L of drink
- Only 7 hours hot (Primus), and the drink cap in the box is for cold drinks; a hot sip cap is sold separately
- Ultralight Outdoor Gear shows 9 hours hot and 47 hours cold, which are the Primus figures for the 0.75 L Mika; the 0.5 L page says 7 and 32
- No independent test found, so ease of use and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
