Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 5/10How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Optimus's page (Katadyn Group) gives 284 g for the set and 0.95 L for the pot. Optimus publishes no volume for the frying pan that doubles as the lid, so capacity is the pot alone (as in the method). 284 g for 0.95 L is 299 g per litre (298.9), the top of the 220-299 g/L band. The same page's text and Optimus's 2021 Terra cook sets fact sheet both say 275 g (289 g per litre, also band 3); we band the heavier 284 g. At 300 g per litre it would be a 2, so the score has no room to spare. Shops: Alpinetrek 284 g, Ultralight Outdoor Gear 272 g (set) and 0.95 L.
Cooking and ease of use

In short
Good for
- One walker, or two light eaters, who want a pot with a heat exchanger and a frying pan in one set
- Gas canister stove trips where faster boils save fuel (Optimus says up to 20% shorter)
- Nesting a stove and a small gas canister inside the pot (Optimus)
Strengths
- Heat-exchanger base on the 0.95 L pot cuts time to boil (Optimus: by 20%)
- Pour spout and a volume scale on the pot (Alpinetrek)
- Frying pan that doubles as the lid, with a non-stick coating
- Folding handles with insulating grips (Ultralight Outdoor Gear)
Weaknesses
- 299 g per litre, only a middling result for weight against size
- Non-stick coating can scratch, so keep other items out of the pot
- Not for open fires: the heat exchanger is hard to clean of soot (somecampingstoves)
- Some US shops list it as discontinued
- Shops give different set weights: 272 g to 284 g (Optimus itself gives 284 g and 275 g)
