Our ratings (out of 10)

Waterproofing
From maker's figures 4/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 4: A bit below average.
OEX lists a 'waterproof membrane insert' and a waterproof inner lining, with a stated 3,000 mm waterproof rating, but names no membrane maker and never says the insert is sealed. The method's 4 band needs a sealed waterproof insert, and a 'waterproof' glove with neither a sealed insert nor a named membrane scores 2, so we put it in the 2 band. It would be the 4 band if OEX said the insert is sealed. 3,000 mm is also a low figure for waterproof fabric (the method doesn't band gloves by mm), and a Blacks customer review says it soaks through in more than a light shower (customer reviews don't set the score).
In short
Good for
- Easy winter hill days in dry-to-damp weather
- Cheap spare gloves for a kit list
Strengths
- Waterproof membrane insert and waterproof lining (OEX)
- Pre-curved, box-construction fingers with a roll tip (OEX)
- Flocked nose-wipe on the thumb, knitted inner cuff and a carabiner loop for the pack
- Four sizes (S to XL); one Blacks reviewer calls it very warm and good for cold, wet weather
Weaknesses
- A Blacks reviewer says anything more than a light shower soaks through, so it is not fully waterproof
- OEX's description lists both a leather palm and a nylon grip palm, so check which you get
