Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 2/10

How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 2: A weak point.

OEX gives one weight, 3.02 kg (Tiso, Millets, Blacks and GO Outdoors all print the same figure), and no separate minimum trail weight. It probably includes the two carry bags and pegs, so the bare tent may be a little lighter, but we score the one figure given: 2.7 kg or more is the lowest band, band 1 (1 out of 10). Reviewers of the older versions weighed theirs at 2.9 to 3.08 kg. It comes in two bags so two people can split it.

Rain protection

From maker's figures 8/10

How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.

Flysheet 5,000 mm HH is in the 3,000 mm+ band and the 4,000 mm groundsheet is over 2,000 mm, so nothing is taken off. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.

Wind

Estimate from maker's specs: maker's season rating (fewer than 3 reviews about wind) 5/10

How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

No published review says how it copes with wind, so this is an estimate from the maker's season rating.

Space

Estimate from maker's specs: berths and tent shape (no floor area published) 7/10

Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 7: Better than most.

Estimate from maker's specs

Packed size

From maker's figures 2/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 2: A weak point.

Pack size 44 x 24 x 15 cm, a box: 44 x 24 x 15 = 15,840 cm³, so 15.8 L, in the 15 L+ band. It splits into two bags.

In short

Good for

  • Two people on short camping trips who want a roomy, cheap tunnel tent
  • Festival, car and campsite use where weight doesn't matter
  • Short wild camps where the walk in is not far and two can share the load

Strengths

  • Two-pole tunnel design with colour-coded poles
  • Large porch with its own built-in groundsheet (about 1 x 1 m)
  • Two carry bags so two people can share the weight
  • Vents front and back for air through the tent

Weaknesses

  • 3 kg and 15.8 L is heavy and bulky for a two-person tent you carry on your back
  • No published inner floor size, so we can't score space
  • The V3 has only one review we could find, so wind, pitching and durability are blank
  • Poles and pegs are packed with the inner, which is awkward when you pitch the fly first
  • Fabric is thinner than older versions, according to one owner
