Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
From maker's figures 5/10How cold a night you can sleep comfortably through. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
ISO comfort 4 °C (limit -1 °C) sits in the 0.1 to 5 °C band. A three-season bag for spring to early autumn, and a warmer-weather sibling of the Disco 15. The maker's figure, not re-tested.
Room inside
Estimate: only 1 review about room inside (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How much room to move, bend your knees and sleep on your side. Roomier is comfier. 8: Clearly better than most.
Both reviewers single out the Disco 30 for side sleepers: the spoon shape gives lots of room at the shoulders and knees so you can bend your legs and turn over. Only two sources found, one an older test of the earlier version.
Weight
From maker's figures 7/10How much it adds to your pack. 7: Better than most.
880 g (the maker's minimum weight, Regular) sits in the 700-999 g band. The UK shop lists 868 g and another lists 950 g with its sacks, all in the same band.
Packed size
From maker's figures 7/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 7: Better than most.
Maker states a 5 L compressed volume, so we use that (4-5.9 L band). Its own 27 x 17.5 cm packed size works out larger: 3.1416 x 8.75 x 8.75 x 27 = about 6.5 L, which would be the 6-8.9 L band.
In short
Good for
- Side sleepers and restless sleepers on spring-to-early-autumn UK camps, with nights above about 4 °C
- Short backpacking trips and car-based camping where a roomy, good night's sleep matters more than pack weight
Strengths
- Roomy spoon shape lets you roll over and bend your knees without twisting the bag
- Chest vents (Thermo Gills) and a large fold-out collar let you cool down or seal in warmth
- Reinforced hood and footbox shed tent-wall condensation, with hydrophobic down inside
- Comes with a pillow pocket, a compression sack and a take-back recycling scheme
Weaknesses
- ISO comfort is only 4 °C, so cold sleepers need layers or a warmer bag near freezing
- Only 650 fill down: Better Trail rates warmth for the weight as mediocre and says it is too heavy for ultralight trips
- Better Trail's tester had fabric wear on granite, one seam come apart and a snagging main zip, so check it over on arrival
- The maker's packed volume (5 L) does not match its own packed size (27 x 17.5 cm, about 6.5 L)
- Short on independent evidence: we found only one test of the current Disco 30, so damp performance, comfort and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
