Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 6/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 6: A bit better than average.
The maker's trail weight is 1.61 kg (tent, fly and pole, no pegs or bags), in the 1.5–1.99 kg band. UKC weighed the whole kit at 1,777 g, within the same band.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 8/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.
Fly 3,000 mm is the 3,000 mm and over band (the top band), and the floor is 6,000 mm, so no point is taken off. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.
Wind
Estimate from maker's specs: maker's season rating (fewer than 3 reviews about wind) 5/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
No published review says how it copes with wind, so this is an estimate from the maker's season rating.
Space
From maker's figures 8/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 8: Clearly better than most.
A 2.95 m² floor (224 cm long, 132 cm wide) ÷ 2 people = 1.475 m² each, in the 1.35–1.59 band.
Packed size
From maker's figures 6/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 6: A bit better than average.
Packs to 58 cm long x 13 cm across: 3.1416 x 6.5 x 6.5 x 58 = 7,698 cm³, so 7.7 L, in the 7–9.9 L band.
What reviewers say (out of 10)
Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score
Pitching*
Reviewers' average 7/10How quickly and easily one person can pitch it, including in wind and rain.
4 reviews on pitching, e.g. "Once the inner tent is erected (easier with two people than one), the rainfly is draped over it and secured.".
Condensation*
Reviewers' average 7/10How dry it stays inside on still, damp nights; higher is drier.
3 reviews on condensation, e.g. "Condensation can still form in humid or cold conditions, but it is generally well managed".
In short
Good for
- Two people who want a roomy, tough three-season tent that stands up in UK rain
- Spring to autumn camps in the hills, where a freestanding pitch on thin or rocky ground matters
- One walker who wants a very spacious tent and accepts carrying about 1.6 kg
Strengths
- Fly rated 3,000 mm and floor 6,000 mm, so it needs no footprint on ordinary ground
- Rectangular 2.95 m² floor, 224 cm long, with room for two wide mats and kit at the ends
- Peak height 102 cm: two people can sit up at once
- Two doors, each with its own porch, so neither sleeper climbs over the other
- Freestanding hub pole, so it pitches on thin ground with a few pegs
- Mostly fabric inner cuts draughts and keeps it warmer than the lighter LT
Weaknesses
- Trail weight of 1.61 kg (1.8 kg packed) is heavier than light two-person tents
- Inner pitches first, so it gets wet if you pitch in rain; flysheet-first is fiddly
- Bowed and billowed in gusts over 48 km/h in UKC's test: its roof bar floats, so it is not a storm tent
- Only 8 pegs supplied, fewer than its guy points can use, so you will want extra
- Fly is noisy in wind, and the mostly fabric inner can get stuffy in hot weather
- No third review of the 2-person size covers wind, so wind stability is an estimate, not a reviewed score
