Weight
Estimate from maker's specs: the maker's weight 5/10How much they add to your pack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Rain protection
From maker's figures 7/10How well the fabric and seams keep out heavy, long rain, when new. 7: Better than most.
A named GORE-TEX ePE membrane with no mm figure on Mountain Equipment's current page, so the GORE-TEX rule gives 7 (an estimate: a 9 or 10 needs reviews). Seams are taped throughout (Mountain Equipment's page as archived on 17 Oct 2025; the current page no longer lists it). That archive copy is the same trousers (75D GORE-TEX ePE, 360 g, £200) from when Mountain Equipment still called them the Makalu; Tiso's page says the Makalu pants became the Saltoro. The new Makalu is a different 70D, 420 g, £250 model. We ignore the 28,000 mm printed on the archived page and by the shops.
