In short
Good for
- All-season GORE-TEX shell for hillwalking, winter days and scrambling in UK weather
- Walkers who want a helmet-compatible hood and pit zips in a 3-layer jacket
Strengths
- GORE-TEX ePE (PFAS-free) membrane, Storm Test certified
- Helmet-compatible, fully adjustable hood with a wired peak
- Pit zips and a 2-way YKK AquaGuard front zip for venting
- 3 zipped pockets placed clear of rucksack straps and a harness
- Guaranteed by Mountain Equipment for the reasonable life of the product
Weaknesses
- Mountain Equipment doesn't say the seams are taped, so rain protection is an estimate, not a reviewed score
- 520 g is in the 470-649 g band, heavier than the Montane Norste jackets
- The independent reviews found test the earlier 75D version, so weather protection and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
- Only Mountain Equipment sells the AW26 version so far: Tiso's page is still the earlier 75D Makalu
