Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much it adds to your pack. 8: Clearly better than most.
Mountain Equipment's page gives 160 g and does not say which size. 160 g is in the 160–199 g band, the 4 band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 139 g (S), 153 g (M), 157 g (L) and 180 g (XL); its 153 g for size M would be the 5 band, so the lower-scoring brand figure is used.
Warmth
From maker's figures 3/10How much the fabric insulates next to your skin. Heavier fabric is warmer and slower to dry. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
Mountain Equipment gives the fabric at 120 g/m². 120 g/m² is in the 110–149 g/m² band, the 2 band. Mountain Equipment calls it lightweight and suitable year-round.
In short
Good for
- Hillwalking, trekking and mountain running in mild weather, and as a light next-to-skin layer under a fleece in cooler months: Mountain Equipment says it works year-round
- Long trips and long-distance walks where weight matters: 160 g by Mountain Equipment's figure, and Mountain Equipment calls it an ideal choice for long trips
- Moving heat off on climbs with the deep centre front zip
Strengths
- 120 g/m² grid fabric, light and quick to dry per Mountain Equipment
- 160 g (score 8), and 153 g in size M per Ultralight Outdoor Gear
- Polygiene StayFresh treatment against odour, flatlocked seams and a bonded zip insertion to cut rub points
Weaknesses
- 120 g/m² fabric is thin for cold weather (warmth score 3)
- No independent hands-on test found, so comfort, odour and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
- Mountain Equipment calls the fit slim; Ultralight Outdoor Gear calls it regular
