Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: fleece or softshell glove 3/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 7/10How much they add to your pack. 7: Better than most.
100 g for the pair, Mountain Equipment's figure on its product page (size not stated): the 60-109 g band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists a size M pair at 89 g, also in that band.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 6/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 6: A bit better than average.
EXOLITE XP stretch soft shell outer. Mountain Equipment's page says the soft shell outer combines 'durability, windproofness and comfort' and lists 'Water-resistant' among the features, with a water-resistant goatskin palm. Tiso and Ultralight Outdoor Gear list a PU membrane in the outer fabric, which no page calls a sealed waterproof insert. A windproof soft shell with a water-resistant finish and no sealed insert: the method's 3.
In short
Good for
- Alpine climbing and ski touring where precision matters more than warmth
- Winter scrambling and mountaineering as a lighter second glove
- Adjusting boot buckles and placing climbing protection, which Mountain Equipment says the glove is made for
Strengths
- 100 g for the pair
- Stretch soft shell outer for wind protection, with a water-resistant goatskin palm
- Microfleece lining throughout
- Low-bulk split cuff slides under a jacket sleeve
- Sizes S to XXL; guaranteed against defects in components, materials and workmanship for the reasonable life of the product
Weaknesses
- No sealed waterproof insert, so waterproofing scores 6
- No touchscreen fingertips
- Lightweight microfleece lining, so expect less warmth than an insulated glove
- No independent review of the current build found, so warmth, dexterity and durability scores are blank
