Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: insulated glove 7/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 7: Better than most.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 4/10How much they add to your pack. 4: A bit below average.
200 g for the pair, Montane's figure (size not stated; its US page agrees, in ounces): the 180-279 g band. Live for the Outdoors weighed 96 g per glove (men's M) for the earlier version, which is in the same band.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 8/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 8: Clearly better than most.
Montane lists a Petrichor waterproof, breathable glove insert, shown in its materials table as a thermoplastic polyurethane waterproof insert, under a Granite Stretch outer with a PFC/PFAS-free water-repellent finish. A waterproof insert from Montane's own technology, not a named outside membrane maker: the 4 band.
In short
Good for
- Cold, wet days in the hills and winter walking where you want a waterproof glove with a long cuff
- Winter mountaineering and expedition days: gauntlet cuff, leash loop and goat-leather palm
- A warm outer glove over a liner glove in deep winter
Strengths
- Waterproof Petrichor insert with a Sherpa pile fleece lining
- Full goat-leather palm and knuckles, with extra overlays in high-wear areas
- Gauntlet cuff with adjustment, an elasticated wrist and a leash loop
- Montane's lifetime guarantee against faults in workmanship and materials
Weaknesses
- 200 g for the pair is heavy for a glove (the 180-279 g band)
- Montane gives no insulation weight, so warmth can't be compared on numbers
- Advnture found the earlier Supercell ran small and Live for the Outdoors found its fit slightly narrow and flagged the risk of the liner and outer separating; whether the new build does too is untested
- No independent review of this version found, so our warmth, dexterity and durability scores are blank
