What reviewers say (out of 10)
Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score
Breathability*
Estimate: only 1 review about breathability (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How dry they keep you from sweat on the move, uphill.
1 review on breathability, e.g. "thanks to their lightweight, breathable fabric and ease of movement".
In short
Good for
- Emergency waterproof legs for trail running, fastpacking and ultralight summer trips
- Anyone who wants rain cover that weighs about the same as a bar of chocolate
- Race and mountain marathon kit lists that ask for waterproof trousers
Strengths
- 100 g (Montane), in the top weight band
- 15,000 mm hydrostatic head from a 20D 2.5-layer fabric
- Includes a cube stuff sack that doubles as repair fabric
- Elasticated waist and hems; zipped ankle opening to get them on over shoes
- Articulated knees and a raised rear yoke
Weaknesses
- Trim, close-fitting cut: Runner's World's panel found it tight and suggests sizing up
- Thin 20D fabric will wear faster than a 40D overtrouser against rock and pack straps
- Only a short ankle zip, so boots go through the leg opening: tighter than half- or full-length zips
- Montane doesn't publish a breathability figure on its page
- Montane doesn't say how far the seams are taped, so rain protection is an estimate, not a reviewed score yet (only Trekitt's copy says fully taped, so the page shows it as not published)
