In short
Good for
- Hillwalking and trekking in changing weather in a 3-layer shell with a two-way front zip
- Cooler days, where having no pit zips matters less
Strengths
- Montane's own figure: 20,000 mm hydrostatic head
- 3-layer Petrichor fabric, which Montane says has no intentional PFAS
- Two-way YKK Aquaguard front zip, covered pocket zips and a fully adjustable hood and hem
- Laminated peak, hem and cuff tabs and offset seams to cut seams and weight
Weaknesses
- Montane doesn't say the seams are fully taped, so rain protection is an estimate, not a reviewed score
- Weather protection and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores: only one independent test of this jacket found
- No pit zips (Montane's page and the one video review we found)
- Montane's page gives two breathability figures (RET under 7 in the features, under 5 in the fabric text); the page shows the less favourable, under 7, as a fact (never scored)
