Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Brightness
From maker's figures 5/10How much light it gives at full power, for finding your way in the dark. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Ledlenser gives 300 lumens in the Power mode (4 hours), and its UK FAQ says it measures its lights to ANSI/FL1 (the product page doesn't repeat it): the 300–499 band. The 600-lumen boost is a short burst (about 10 seconds a time, say UKHillwalking and The Determined Runner) and is not counted.
Runtime
From maker's figures 8/10How long one charge or set of batteries lasts at a level you can walk and cook by. 8: Clearly better than most.
The 100-lumen Mid Power mode runs 8 hours on the 1,800 mAh battery (Ledlenser's figure), in the 6–9.9 h band. The 300-lumen mode lasts 4 hours; the 20-lumen low mode is under 80 lumens, so it doesn't count.
Weight
From maker's figures 5/10How much it adds to your pack and your head. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Ledlenser lists 104 g with the battery, in the 90–109 g band (UKHillwalking weighed 108 g, the same band; Ultralight Outdoor Gear gives 117 g).
In short
Good for
- Night walks, running and camp chores where a 104 g lamp is enough
- Three-season hill use with 300 lumens for 4 hours or 100 lumens for 8 hours
- Wearing on the chest instead of the head: a chest strap is in the box
Strengths
- 104 g with the battery, split between a small lamp and a rear battery pack so it sits without bounce (UKHillwalking)
- Rear red flashing light and a reflective headband
- Transport lock and an automatic low-power backup before the battery runs out
- Magnetic charging with a USB-C plug on the cable, and a charge indicator light
- 7-year warranty with online registration
Weaknesses
- The 600-lumen boost lasts about 10 seconds, so the working maximum is 300 lumens
- Power mode is only 4 hours; the 8-hour mode is 100 lumens
- IP54: splash-proof, not for immersion
- The button is hard to use in thick gloves (The Determined Runner), though UKHillwalking found it usable
- Magnetic charging cable only: you must carry Ledlenser's own cable
