Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight for its size
From maker's figures 6/10How much it adds to your pack for the water it holds. 6: A bit better than average.
HydraPak UK lists 146.4 g for 0.75 L: 195 g per litre, in the 180–299 g/L band. Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 141 g, which is 188 g per litre, the same band.
Packed size (empty)
From maker's figures 4/10How much room it takes up when it is empty, for the water it holds. 4: A bit below average.
A rigid bottle does not shrink, so we draw it as a cylinder from its height and width. HydraPak UK gives 250 mm tall and 70.5 mm across: 3.1416 x 3.525 x 3.525 x 25 = 976 cm³, so 0.98 L empty for 0.75 L held (1.30 per litre, 1.301 before rounding), only just in the 1.3–1.79 band.
In short
Good for
- Day hikes and wild camps where one cheap, rigid bottle in a pack side pocket will do
- Car cup holders and slim pockets: the body is 7 cm across
- Hikers who want less splash from the wide mouth and will add HydraPak's WaterGate splash protector
Strengths
- Tethered cap that cannot be dropped, with an angled handle for a carabiner or one hand
- Slender body that fits most pack pockets and cup holders (HydraPak)
- Made from Tritan Renew with 50% recycled content; HydraPak says it resists impact, stains and odours
- Dishwasher safe (cap off); fits HydraPak's WaterGate splash protector
Weaknesses
- Rigid: takes 0.98 L of pack room whether full or empty, just inside the 1.3 L per litre line
- Wide mouth, so it splashes unless you add the separate WaterGate protector
- HydraPak gives a maximum temperature of 60 °C, so it is not for boiling water or as a hot-water bottle
- UK shops disagree on weight (146.4 g HydraPak, 141 g Ultralight Outdoor Gear); we use HydraPak's
- No independent test found, so ease of use and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
