Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 9/10How much it adds to your pack. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Highlander gives 370 g, under the 400 g line.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 4/10How well the fabric keeps out heavy, long rain. 4: A bit below average.
Highlander gives one figure of 4,000 HH for the AB-TEX fabric and does not split out the floor, so it is read as the figure for the whole bag. That is the 3,000-4,999 band and nothing is taken off. If the floor were counted as not published, the score would be 1.
Packed size
From maker's figures 10/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 10: The best you can buy for this.
Highlander gives 21 x 9 x 9 cm, a roll: 3.1416 x 4.5 x 4.5 x 21 = 1,336 cm³, about 1.3 L, under the 2.5 L line.
In short
Good for
- Very small and light add-on for summer wild camps under a tarp
Strengths
- Light at 370 g and packs to about 1.3 L
- Taped seams, extra-wide chest area and a drawcord opening
Weaknesses
- Only 4,000 HH, so heavy rain needs a tarp over the top
- Elasticated drawcord opening and no poles, so there is no sealed hood
- No independent test was found, so condensation, comfort and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
