Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight for its size

From maker's figures 5/10

How much it adds to your pack for the amount it holds. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

GSI's live page gives 0.6 L. Its page for the same SKU 50269 (GSI's own page, archived on the Wayback Machine on 19 Sept 2025; the live page no longer shows the weight) gave the weight in imperial units, which converts to 173 g (pot, lid, cozy, gripper and foon); GSI's live page data still says 173 g. 173 g for 0.6 L = 288 g per litre, in the 220-299 g/L band. Trailspace's reviewer weighed 184 g and Ultralight Outdoor Gear lists 202 g (shop figure).

Cooking and ease of use

From reviews 8/10

How evenly it heats, whether food sticks or burns, cleaning, and the handles, lid, pouring and steadiness on a small stove. 8: Clearly better than most.

Three hands-on sources, all 4. Trailspace (Bentbrook, 4; bought it new) says it heats quickly and evenly, boiled sooner than expected, and washes easily after a thick stew; the pot gripper pours awkwardly and the cozy is tight. PaleoHikerMD (4) cooked ramen in it and calls it a solid, well-built kit with excellent volume marks. The Camping Post (4; bought it himself) boiled 200 ml in 2 min 47 s on a small canister stove and found the lid seals well. All three show the 0.6 L hard-anodised pot with the steel-handled foon and silicone gripper that GSI sells now (the same foon, 9.4 cm folded and 15.5 cm open, as GSI's page).

In short

Good for

  • One person boiling water for dehydrated meals, tea and coffee
  • Nesting a small stove and a 110 g canister inside the pot (Trailspace; The Camping Post)
  • Day walks and short overnights where a cheap, light kit is enough

Strengths

  • 173 g for the whole kit, 288 g per litre
  • Cozy and lid turn the pot into an insulated mug
  • Metric volume marks inside the pot (Trailspace)
  • Steel-handled foon is sturdier than the first version (Trailspace)

Weaknesses

  • 0.6 L is small: no room for larger meals or two people
  • The pot gripper is awkward for pouring (Trailspace)
  • The cozy is tight and the same colour as the pot, so it's easy to leave on over a flame (Trailspace)
