Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 6/10

How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 6: A bit better than average.

Fjallraven's minimum weight of 1.74 kg sits in the 1.5-1.99 kg band (2.07 kg with pegs, guylines and sack).

Rain protection

From maker's figures 8/10

How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.

Fly 3,000 mm is in the 3,000 mm+ band, and the 6,000 mm floor is over 2,000 mm, so no point is taken off. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.

Wind

From reviews 9/10

How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.

All four sources rate it stable: Tom Heaney (about 65-80 km/h wind, extra guylines added) and TheWoollybackwalker (about 75 km/h, with a second set of poles fitted) call it very stable, T3 says it dealt with wind and rain very well, and Westie Travels picks it for its strength. T3 and TheWoollybackwalker still advise guying it fully.

Space

From maker's figures 6/10

Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 6: A bit better than average.

Fjallraven's size drawing gives the inner as 220 cm long, 130 cm wide at the head end, 125 cm in the middle and 100 cm at the foot end. Taking the head and foot widths (the cautious figure), the floor is 220 x (130 + 100) / 2 = 25,300 cm², or 2.53 m²; ÷ 2 people = 1.27 m² each, in the 1.15-1.34 band. Height is 90 cm at the head, falling to 75 cm. Testers call it roomy for one and tight for two.

Packed size

From maker's figures 5/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Packs to 39 cm long x 17 cm across: 3.1416 x 8.5 x 8.5 x 39 = 8,852 cm³, so 8.85 L, in the 7-9.9 L band.

What reviewers say (out of 10)

Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score

Pitching*

Reviewers' average 10/10

How quickly and easily one person can pitch it, including in wind and rain.

3 reviews on pitching, e.g. "Even without reading the instructions, it’s intuitive and fairly foolproof.".

Durability*

Estimate: only 2 reviews about durability (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10

How well the fabric, poles, zips and seams hold up over seasons of use.

2 reviews on durability, e.g. "they’re all high quality and feel sturdy".

In short

Good for

  • One person who wants a roomy, light four-season tunnel tent for three-season and winter UK hills
  • Two people who accept a tight fit and share the weight
  • Long walks where a short packed length (39 cm) fits inside a rucksack

Strengths

  • Light for a four-season tent: 1.74 kg minimum, 2.07 kg with pegs and sack
  • Stable in very strong wind in several reviews (about 65-80 km/h), with colour-coded poles and six Dyneema guylines
  • Inner tent stays attached to the fly, so it stays dry when you pitch in rain
  • Short 39 cm packed length, and the poles clip to the outside of the sack
  • Fly and floor ratings of 3,000 mm and 6,000 mm, and a repair kit in the box
  • Both flysheet ends roll up for a view and more airflow in warm weather

Weaknesses

  • Tight for two people: T3, Tom Heaney and TheWoollybackwalker all treat it as a one-person tent
  • Low at the foot end (75 cm), so feet can touch the fly (T3)
  • The door between the inner and the porch hinges at the bottom, so you kneel on the fabric to get in (T3)
  • Thin fabric feels cold on a freezing night, and you need a good bag (TheWoollybackwalker)
  • Space is worked out from the head and foot widths in Fjallraven's drawing, so the floor is only roughly 2.5 m²
