Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 4/10How much it adds to your pack. This is the whole tent: two people sharing can split it. 4: A bit below average.
Fjallraven's minimum weight of 2.10 kg sits in the 2.0-2.69 kg band (2.55 kg with pegs, guylines and sack).
Rain protection
From maker's figures 8/10How well it keeps out heavy, long rain. 8: Clearly better than most.
Fly 3,000 mm is in the 3,000 mm+ band, and the 6,000 mm floor is over 2,000 mm, so no point is taken off. The printed figure alone gives 8 at most: a 9 or 10 needs 3 reviews that say it stays dry in real storms.
Wind
Estimate: only 1 review about wind (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How steady it stays in strong wind on open ground. 8: Clearly better than most.
Outdoor Magazin measured no loss of space at 140 km/h lengthways and 130 km/h sideways. It flattened at 185 and 150 km/h respectively, bending or breaking poles; the score reflects failure at those test limits.
Space
From maker's figures 6/10Room to lie, sit up and keep kit inside. 6: A bit better than average.
Fjallraven's size drawing gives the inner as 225 cm long, 125 cm wide at the head end, 120 cm in the middle and 105 cm at the foot end. Taking the head and foot widths (the cautious figure), the floor is 225 x (125 + 105) / 2 = 25,875 cm², or 2.59 m²; ÷ 2 people = 1.29 m² each, in the 1.15-1.34 band. Height is 95 cm, falling to 85 cm. Outdoor magazine measured a smaller usable inner area of 2.2 m², a lying length of 192 cm and a height of 88 cm; we still band Fjallraven's figures.
Packed size
From maker's figures 5/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Packs to 39 cm long x 18 cm across: 3.1416 x 9 x 9 x 39 = 9,925 cm³, so 9.92 L, in the 7-9.9 L band (just under 10 L).
In short
Good for
- One or two people who want a four-season tunnel tent with a big side-entry porch
- Long wet spells in the hills, where there is room to cook and keep kit dry in the vestibule
- Winter camps where a full-height inner and a large porch matter more than weight
Strengths
- Large side-entry vestibule for kit, cooking and long rainy days, with a clothes line in the porch and the inner
- Three DAC Featherlite poles and Dyneema guylines on a four-season tunnel shape
- Inner stays attached to the fly, so it stays dry when you pitch in rain
- Fly 3,000 mm and floor 6,000 mm
- Short 39 cm packed length
Weaknesses
- Only one independent test found, so wind, pitching and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
- Heavier than the Abisko Lite 2: 2.10 kg minimum, 2.55 kg with pegs and sack
- Not freestanding, so it needs pegs and guylines, and the footprint is big on a small pitch (a Varuste.net owner)
- Low inside: 95 cm falling to 85 cm, and outdoor magazine measured a usable inner area of 2.2 m², smaller than the drawing suggests
