Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much the pair adds to your hands and pack. 8: Clearly better than most.
Fizan gives 158 g. Its product page does not say per pole or per pair, but its Summer 2026 catalogue calls the Compact the world's lightest telescopic pole at 158 grams (one pole), UK shops list 158 g per pole, Live For The Outdoors says Fizan's site states 158 g per pole, and CleverHiker gives the pair at about 317 g. Doubled to 316 g for the pair: the 300-449 g band. Testers weigh more: Live For The Outdoors 169 g a pole, Atanasiu 171 g and SectionHiker 173 g with straps (338-346 g a pair, the same band).
Packed size
From maker's figures 6/10Whether they fit inside or along a rucksack. 6: A bit better than average.
Fizan gives 59 cm closed (its page and catalogue): the 55-64.9 cm band. Live For The Outdoors and SectionHiker measured 60 cm, the same band.
In short
Good for
- Gram-counting walkers who want 316 g poles without paying for carbon
- Backpacking and thru-hiking on a budget, with 132 cm maximum for most trekking-pole tents
- Walkers who prefer a simple twist lock with nothing sticking out to snag on brush
Strengths
- 316 g a pair (158 g a pole, Fizan)
- 7001 aluminium shafts that bend before they break (CleverHiker)
- 59 cm packed, 100-132 cm adjustable, with two baskets (35 and 50 mm) and carbide tips
- No levers or clips to catch on branches
Weaknesses
- Twist lock: the plastic expanders can slip or fail to catch when dusty or frozen (CleverHiker, Atanasiu), and reviewers expect them to wear over time (SectionHiker, Live For The Outdoors)
- Short grip with no extended section, sized for smaller hands (Live For The Outdoors; SectionHiker and Atanasiu said the same of earlier versions)
- Testers weigh 169-173 g a pole against Fizan's 158 g
- 59 cm packed does not fit a small pack
- Reviewers disagree on lock and durability
- Grip score is blank: reviews of the current pole are too few, and earlier editions had a different grip and strap
