Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Brightness
From maker's figures 9/10How much light it gives at full power, for finding your way in the dark. 9: Among the best you can buy for this.
Fenix gives 800 lumens on Spotlight High, tested to ANSI/PLATO FL1. Its runtime chart shows the 800 lumens holding for about 7 minutes before it falls to about 330 lumens until about 2 hours: more than 1 minute, so the 800+ band, which it meets exactly (800 is the edge of the band). Fenixlight UK gives 3 hours on High in total, including temperature and battery-level step-downs. This rests on Fenix's chart: we found no independent measurement of its output over time.
Runtime
From maker's figures 8/10How long one charge or set of batteries lasts at a level you can walk and cook by. 8: Clearly better than most.
Fenix gives 8 h on Spotlight Medium and Floodlight High (200 lumens each). Its chart shows the 200 lumens easing to about 150 lumens and holding to about 6.8 h before stepping down to about 40 lumens. Both readings (8 h, about 6.8 h) are in the 6-9.9 h band. The 70-lumen modes (20 h) and 5 lumens (150 h) are under 80 lumens so they don't count.
Weight
From maker's figures 5/10How much it adds to your pack and your head. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Fenix lists 107 g with the battery (Fenixlight UK says 107 g including battery and headband): the 90-109 g band.

In short
Good for
- Trail running and night walks where you want a warm, wide flood most of the time and a spot for far-off gates
- Long trips: the battery pack comes out and three AAA batteries fit instead
- Anyone who finds silicone headbands irritate their skin
Strengths
- 107 g with battery
- Separate floodlight and spotlight, each with its own switch

- No red light; the SOS is only 5 lumens
- 800 lumens lasts a few minutes before dropping to about 330 lumens (Fenix's chart)
- No independent measurement of its output: only Fenix's figures
- One Fenix US customer's first unit broke its adjuster click and rear plastic clip; he bought a second
