Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: thin liner glove 1/10How warm they keep your hands at camp and on the move. 1: A real weak point.
Estimate from maker's specs
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much they add to your pack. 8: Clearly better than most.
66 g for the pair in one size, Extremities' figure on its Terra Nova webshop page: the 60-109 g band. Cotswold's copy and data say 39 g, which would be the under-60 g band (the top band); that is a shop's figure, not Extremities', so the brand's 66 g is the one banded.
Waterproofing
From maker's figures 2/10How well they keep your hands dry and the wind out, from how they are made. 2: A weak point.
A thin acrylic knit liner. Extremities makes no windproof, water-repellent or waterproof claim and sells it for wearing alone in cool weather or as a base layer under shell gloves: the 'no claim' band for liners.
What reviewers say (out of 10)
Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score
Dexterity*
Estimate: only 1 review about dexterity (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 6/10How easily you can work zips, buckles and a phone with them on.
1 review on dexterity, e.g. "Only worked using my iPhone intermittently so returned for a refund".
In short
Good for
- A light liner under a shell glove or mitt on cold winter days
- Cool, dry days on lower ground when you only need a thin glove
- Using a phone or GPS with the gloves on
Strengths
- 66 g for the pair, one size
- Touchscreen-compatible thumb and finger tips
- Quick-drying, close-fitting acrylic knit
- One-year guarantee from Extremities
Weaknesses
- No weather protection: Extremities makes no windproof or water-repellent claim
- Single thin layer with no insulation, so warmth in real cold is limited
- No independent review found, so warmth, dexterity and durability scores are blank
- Cotswold's copy gives 39 g against Extremities' 66 g
