Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Weight

From maker's figures 3/10

How much it adds to your pack. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.

Brand lists 260 g for the one size, in the 200–299 g band. CleverHiker and Treeline both list about 260 g for the current version, and Alpinetrek lists 278 g (same band). Tamarack's page still prints 170 g, the earlier version's weight, which the brand's 260 g and the testers do not support; the figure that scores lower is banded.

Packed size

From maker's figures 6/10

How much room it takes in your rucksack. 6: A bit better than average.

The brand does not publish a packed size, so a tester's figure stands in. Treeline Review gives about 9.9 x 13 cm (listed in its table and text) for the current version: 3.1416 x 4.95 x 4.95 x 13 = about 1,000 cm³, about 1.0 L, at the foot of the 1.0–1.99 L band. CleverHiker also says it packs to about a one-litre bottle. Treeline rounds its size, so it could be a little above or below 1.0 L; the band that scores lower is used.

In short

Good for

  • Side sleepers who want a pillow close to a home one
  • Car camping, campervans and short trips where pack space is not tight
  • Use with a thick mat: eyelets on the sides let you cord it down

Strengths

  • 52 x 32 x 12 cm: a wide, flat sleeping surface with near-vertical sides
  • Fleece-like microfibre topper over a baffled air cell; CleverHiker found it the most comfortable air pillow it had tried
  • Height and firmness adjusted by letting air out
  • Air cell lifts out so the cover can be washed
  • Fabric eyelets on the sides for fixing it to a mat
  • 5-year warranty from Exped

Weaknesses

  • 260 g and a packed size of about 1 L (Treeline, CleverHiker): heavy for ultralight use
  • The brand publishes no packed size; the figure comes from Treeline's measurement
  • No fast-dump valve, so packing away takes longer (CleverHiker)
  • Too wide for a sleeping bag hood (Treeline)
  • Only two tests of the current version so far
