Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Brightness

From maker's figures 8/10

How much light it gives at full power, for finding your way in the dark. 8: Clearly better than most.

Maker's figure, 750 lumens with no test standard stated on Black Diamond's product pages: the 500–799 band, the most a maker's figure can score (maker's figure). Its instruction sheet gives 4.5 hours at this level.

Runtime

From maker's figures 10/10

How long one charge or set of batteries lasts at a level you can walk and cook by. 10: The best you can buy for this.

Black Diamond's instruction sheet (linked from its product page) gives 20 hours on Medium (200 lumens), the longest it gives for a mode of 80 lumens or more: the 10 h+ band. High (750 lumens) lasts 4.5 hours. The product pages show only 80 hours, which is the 35-lumen Low mode. Needle Sports prints the same table.

Weight

From maker's figures 4/10

How much it adds to your pack and your head. 4: A bit below average.

Black Diamond lists 114 g (US and EU pages and the instruction sheet agree) for a lamp with a built-in battery, in the 110–149 g band. GO Outdoors, Needle Sports and Alpinetrek give the same 114 g.

What reviewers say (out of 10)

Ratings marked * are from reviews and are not part of the trip score. They are reviewers' scores, not our own measurements. How we score

Comfort*

Estimate: only 2 reviews about comfort (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10

How comfy and steady it sits on your head.

2 reviews on comfort, e.g. "stays secure and stable on my forehead without having to over-tighten the strap, with little to no bounce on steep, rocky descents".

Ease of use*

Reviewers' average 8/10

How easy the buttons, modes and lock are, with gloves too.

3 reviews on ease of use, e.g. "When you're wearing gloves they're not the easiest, which is a shame as it's likely that's when you'll need them most!".

Reviewers disagree on this.

In short

Good for

  • Winter hill days and wet UK trips: IP67 takes immersion to 1 m for 30 minutes
  • Walkers who want 750 lumens (a maker's figure) with flood, spot and red, green and blue lenses
  • Hikers who want big buttons they can press in gloves

Strengths

  • 750 lumens (maker's figure) with flood, spot and RGB spot lenses
  • 20 hours at 200 lumens and 4.5 hours at 750 lumens (Black Diamond's figures)
  • IP67: waterproof and dustproof
  • USB-C charging with pass-through, and a serviceable 2200 mAh battery
  • Two oversized buttons, mode memory and a digital lock
  • 3-year Black Diamond warranty

Weaknesses

  • New for 2026: no independent review of this lamp yet, so comfort and beam are estimates, not reviewed scores
  • Short at full power: 4.5 hours at 750 lumens (Black Diamond's figure)
  • No AAA backup: it runs on the built-in rechargeable battery only
  • 114 g puts it in the 110–149 g weight band
