Our ratings (out of 10)

1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score

Brightness

From maker's figures 7/10

How much light it gives at full power, for finding your way in the dark. 7: Better than most.

550 lumens at full power, from the ANSI FL-1 table in Black Diamond's instruction sheet: the 500–799 band. The sheet gives 4 hours at this level.

Runtime

From maker's figures 10/10

How long one charge or set of batteries lasts at a level you can walk and cook by. 10: The best you can buy for this.

Black Diamond's instruction sheet (linked from its product page) gives 13 hours on Medium (200 lumens), the longest it gives for a mode of 80 lumens or more: the 10 h+ band. High (550 lumens) lasts 4 hours. The product pages show only 70 hours, which is the 35-lumen Low mode.

Weight

From maker's figures 5/10

How much it adds to your pack and your head. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.

Black Diamond lists 102 g (product page and instruction sheet agree) for a lamp with a built-in battery, in the 90–109 g band. GO Outdoors, Rock+Run and Black Diamond all give 102 g.

In short

Good for

  • Wet UK trips: IP67 is waterproof to 1 m for 30 minutes and dustproof
  • Winter and hill days where a 550-lumen flood and spot lamp helps (Black Diamond's figure)
  • Hikers who want red, green and blue night modes and big buttons they can press in gloves

Strengths

  • 550 lumens (ANSI FL-1 figure in the instruction sheet) with flood, spot and RGB lenses
  • 13 hours at 200 lumens and 4 hours at 550 lumens (Black Diamond's figures)
  • IP67: waterproof and dustproof, tested to 1 m for 30 minutes
  • USB-C charging with pass-through and a serviceable 1800 mAh battery
  • Two oversized buttons, mode memory and a digital lock
  • 3-year Black Diamond warranty

Weaknesses

  • New for 2026: no independent review of this version yet, so comfort and beam are estimates, not reviewed scores
  • Short at full power: 4 hours at 550 lumens (Black Diamond's figure)
  • No AAA backup: it runs on the built-in rechargeable battery only
