Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Weight
From maker's figures 3/10How much it adds to your pack. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
Berghaus lists 0.630 kg without naming the size, which sits in the 470-649 g band. Tiso gives 630 g for size L, so the size M weight is probably a little lower.
Rain protection
From maker's figures 7/10How well the fabric and seams keep out heavy, long rain, when new. 7: Better than most.
GORE-TEX with no mm figure published for the fabric, so the GORE-TEX rule gives 7 (an estimate: a 9 or 10 needs reviews). Berghaus's GORE-TEX panel says 'Every seam is sealed', as on the Kielder we scored the same way. We ignore the 28,000 mm Berghaus prints, the generic GORE-TEX figure.
Warmth
Estimate from maker's specs: 2-layer build with a hanging liner 3/10How much warmth the jacket itself adds. Most shells add little: wear a warm layer under them. 3: Below average. Fine for some trips, not others.
