Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
From maker's figures 6/10How cold a night you can sleep comfortably through. 6: A bit better than average.
Alpkit's EN 13537 comfort figure is 1 °C (limit -4 °C), in the 0.1 to 5 °C band. The maker's figure, not re-tested; Alpkit's own usable limit is -3 °C, which Trek & Mountain found about right.
Room inside
Estimate: only 1 review about room inside (fewer than the 3 we need, so never above 8) 8/10How much room to move, bend your knees and sleep on your side. Roomier is comfier. 8: Clearly better than most.
The one group test calls the fit relatively roomy and unrestrictive, at a small cost in warmth efficiency.
Weight
From maker's figures 7/10How much it adds to your pack. 7: Better than most.
970 g for the Regular sits in the 700–999 g band.
Packed size
From maker's figures 4/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 4: A bit below average.
Alpkit gives the Regular's packed size as 21 cm across x 30 cm, which is 3.1416 x 10.5 x 10.5 x 30 = 10,391 cm³, so 10.4 L, in the 9–12.9 L band.
In short
Good for
- Budget spring, summer and early autumn wild camps in the UK
- Campers who prefer a roomy cut over a close-fitting mummy
- Not for deep winter: Trek & Mountain calls it an all-rounder outside deep winter conditions
Strengths
- 970 g for the Regular, 650 fill power RDS-certified down (500 g fill)
- Box-wall and trapezoid side baffles, draught collar and a double-ended YKK zip for venting your feet
- Trek & Mountain found it lofts well, felt robust and that the -3 °C usable limit seemed about right
- 3-year Alpine Bond guarantee
Weaknesses
- Heavier and bulkier than its rivals (Trek & Mountain): 970 g and about 10 L packed, and the supplied stuff sack alone weighs about 160 g
- Roomy fit makes it slightly less thermally efficient; the hood and shoulder baffle could use more down
- The main zip was reluctant to slide near the shoulder from inside the bag
- Only one hands-on independent test found, so damp performance, comfort and durability are estimates, not reviewed scores
- Alpkit is the only UK shop we found selling it new
