Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Warmth
From maker's figures 8/10How cold a night you can sleep comfortably through. 8: Clearly better than most.
Alpkit's EN 13537 comfort figure is -4.2 °C (limit -10.8 °C), in the -4.9 to 0 °C band. The maker's figure, not re-tested; Alpkit's own sleep limit is -6 °C, and several reviewers say to add a few degrees if you sleep cold.
Room inside
From reviews 6/10How much room to move, bend your knees and sleep on your side. Roomier is comfier. 6: A bit better than average.
Reviewers call it a normal tapered mummy: enough room to wiggle but snug. The regular runs short for people over about 1.83 m.
Reviewers disagree on this.
Weight
From maker's figures 7/10How much it adds to your pack. 7: Better than most.
865 g for the Regular (stuff sack another 30 g) sits in the 700–999 g band. The Great Outdoors weighed its new bag at 811 g (stuff sack another 25 g); we band the maker's figure.
Packed size
From maker's figures 5/10How much room it takes in your rucksack. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
Alpkit's technical table gives the Regular's pack size as 25 cm across x 18 cm, which is 3.1416 x 12.5 x 12.5 x 18 = 8,836 cm³, so 8.8 L, in the 6–8.9 L band (the top edge). Alpkit's text and reviewers also quote 19 x 14 cm (about 4 L) with the second compression strap pulled tight, which would be the 4–5.9 L band; the table figure is used.

In short
Good for
- Three-season wild camps and backpacking trips in the UK, from spring to late autumn
- Light packing: 865 g, and Alpkit says it compresses to about 19 x 14 cm with the second strap
- Cold winter nights only with a high R-value mat and extra layers: reviewers say it is a spring to autumn bag first
Strengths
- Light for the warmth: 865 g with an EN 13537 comfort figure of -4.2 °C
- 750 fill power, 90/10 duck down with a PFC-free hydrophobic treatment, RDS certified
- Box-wall baffles, full-length zip baffle and a hood that reviewers like
- Two lengths and left or right zip, and a 3-year Alpine Bond guarantee
- Cotton lofting bag included for storage; a 2017 bag is reported still going strong
Weaknesses
- Regular is short: Advnture, T3 and Active-Traveller all say go Long over about 1.85 m, and the Long carries the same amount of down, so it is a little cooler
- Optimistic warmth: Alpkit's own sleep limit is -6 °C, but Active-Traveller and Mountain Misadventures say not to rely on it below about -2 to 0 °C
- Down still loses performance when wet, and The Great Outdoors found the hydrophobic treatment on his older bag only moderately effective
- No inner zip garage, and Mountain Misadventures found the zip not the smoothest
