Our ratings (out of 10)
1 to 10, compared with the whole market. Each says what it's based on. How we score
Brightness
From maker's figures 6/10How much light it gives at full power, for finding your way in the dark. 6: A bit better than average.
Maker's figure, 400 lumens in the High mode (2 hours) with no test standard stated: the 300–499 band (maker's figure).
Runtime
From maker's figures 5/10How long one charge or set of batteries lasts at a level you can walk and cook by. 5: Does the job. Average for wild-camping gear.
The 85-lumen Low mode runs 4 hours 30 minutes on the built-in 700 mAh battery (maker's figure), in the 4–5.9 h band. The 210-lumen Mid mode lasts 2 hours 30 minutes and the 400-lumen High mode 2 hours. The case holds 950 mAh, enough for one more full charge of the lamp, but it is not counted in the burn time.
Weight
From maker's figures 8/10How much it adds to your pack and your head. 8: Clearly better than most.
Alpkit lists 53 g for the head torch. The charging case it comes in is a separate 58 g (111 g together), so the weight score is for the lamp worn on its own.
In short
Good for
- Multi-day backpacking trips where the case recharges the lamp in your pack
- A small pocket lamp with a headband that retracts out of the way
- Wet UK trips where rain, not dunking, is the risk (IPX5, lamp only)
Strengths
- 53 g for the lamp, with a retractable low-profile headband
- The charging case recharges the lamp once (950 mAh) and charges by USB-C
- 85 lumens for 4.5 hours and 400 lumens for 2 hours (maker's figures); 108 m beam on High
- Six modes including red and flashing, a lock mode and mode memory
- 3-year Alpine Bond guarantee
Weaknesses
- No independent review found, so comfort and beam are estimates, not reviewed scores
- With its case it is 111 g, more than twice the lamp's 53 g
- The lamp is IPX5 only and Alpkit says not to immerse it; the case has no rating
- Only 2 hours at 400 lumens (maker's figure), from a small 700 mAh battery
- The battery is built in and can't be swapped for disposable batteries
